A synopsis of the book Power and Thermal Ecology or What is Russia to be Engaged in within the International Division of Labour by A. S. Shavva

It is ascertained that progress of the last ten years was practically reduced to progress in the field of making reference to the information bases. And such a situation does not correspond to the real modern stratigraphy of expenses of an average statistic person that is why it is unsatisfactory. There are however no large, encouraging ideas for a material hypostasis of economic management and life. The text is urged to try to fill up these gaps. But, owing to a large scale, this implement is basically a matter of not the morrow. The text is therefore addressed to a young generation starting out in life.

What is Russia to be engaged in within the international division of labour? Taking into account the figures of the physical and economic geography Russia has to increase generation of electrical energy with using all the types of electric power stations including hydroelectric power ones. The situation is complicated by the fact the main hydroelectric power potential is in the Far East of Russia. Its significant portion is located on the coasts of the Sea of Okhotsk and the adjacent territories. These are the localities of extremely cold climate and accordingly they are thinly populated and not provided with any infrastructure including electric power lines.

Attention is paid to Magadan, the capital of the coasts of the Sea of Okhotsk. Here they have a long heating season. The Ust-Srednekansk Hydro-power station construction will be soon completed. This project has been commenced to provide Magadan with electric heating. The second point of attention is Singapore. The climate in Singapore is hot and very humid. The considerable quantity of electricity is therefore consumed for air-conditioning in Singapore. A simultaneous vision of circumstances of Magadan and Singapore suggests an idea to a person to use an unexpected method of transportation of thermal energy, but it is better to define it as ‘comfort’ energy from Magadan to Singapore. It is found out that the application of this, supplied to Singapore, energy might be wider than it was planned, and this energy can be used for the automobile transport sphere.

Then an idea flashes across one’s mind to apply this method without being transported in space, but in time. Donbass is seen as a territory of the first and foremost application of the method. Further we are faced with combating (on the basis of the method) hurricanes, typhoons, and tornados.

The new method of extraction of renewed geographical (geophysical) energy is formulated, i. e. — energy of an air temperature gradient.

The application of this method in a mountain district is described.

All the suggestions are considered from the point of view of prevention of negative

The idea of applying the method can be widely adopted for a large-scale project of combating the consequences of Global Warming.

One comes up with a proposal for applying a vacuumized tube to transport liquid air, magnetic suspension and a linear electric motor. Two pipes of the same diameter as used for the “Northern stream” gas pipeline replaces 615 “Northern stream” gas pipelines if compared their carrying capacities.

Then it is found out that the method can be applicable in the conditions of Global Cooling as well. The Eastern Siberia and Alaska will become the key territories while combating the consequences of Global Warming. While combating Global Cooling, one will deal with problems of the arid regions: such as Namib, Atacama, Kalahari, the Great Sand Desert, and, to some extent, Sahara and Nevada.

In the course of narrating the topics received passing mention are also considered because they reflect other facets of heat-and-mass transfer on the Earth and protection from its extreme forms; aspects of power savings, combating the consequences of Global Warming and provisions of heating comfort and favourable conditions and circumstances for economic management by people, including:

— Methods of snow clearing and removing in big cities.

— Conditioning fields of garden crops and the protected ground.

— Target applications of wind energy.

— A variant of electric-power supply of battery car.

— Arboriculture and wood use.

— Actions to transform into fossil forms of biological carbonaceous remnants providing simultaneously extraordinary fish productivity chosen for the experimental water areas of the Pacific.

— A method (a material to be more exactly) of protection of the Arctic coast lines of Russia against washout.

— A method of stabilization of buildings and contractures on the thawing permafrost.

Attention is paid to an explanation of processes in the atmosphere, processes of carbon cycle with foliage respiration of green forests, etc. and to those processes the flock of people can have the grasps of them for themselves. Those grasps are unfortunately false. In this way the text has a didactic importance. If one understands didactics as the answer to a question: “what is one to be learnt”?

No names of contemporaries are mentioned in the text. There are only two insignificant episodes as an exception about our contemporaries: they are Mr. Pekhtine V. A and Mr. Navalny A. A. mentioned in the context of the flood in the Amur River valley in August-September 2013, and Sir Richard Branson, the owner of Virgin Group also mentioned in connection with his public work against Global Warming.
